Sonoran Desert Parkway | Maricopa, Arizona
EPS Group successfully undertook the design of a groundbreaking project, the Sonoran Desert Parkway, which serves as a pioneering addition to the vital East-West Corridor, fulfilling crucial transportation needs in Pinal County. This project goes beyond traditional road enhancements. It encompasses the construction of the westernmost two miles of the Corridor, a significant feat that will greatly benefit the region’s connectivity and mobility. Notably, the design incorporates a new bridge over the Santa Rosa Wash, a critical feature that enhances accessibility and resilience in the face of challenging terrain and weather conditions.
The project encompasses a half-mile stretch of Porter Road, a key component of the overall transportation network, further improving accessibility and connectivity in the area. Additionally, the success of this venture was contingent upon extensive coordination with adjacent development projects. Establishing seamless integration and alignment with the needs of the community was vital.
Comprehensive planning and design process ensured that essential elements, such as accesses and utility infrastructure, were thoughtfully incorporated to support the project’s functionality and longevity.
“As you traverse this cutting-edge parkway, expect to experience wide lanes, attractive street lighting, and curbing. While some landscaping is already in place, more enhancements are on the horizon. The new bridge over the Santa Rosa Wash is not just a bridge—it’s a lifeline, offering residents of Santa Rosa Springs a vital second option for entering and exiting the subdivision.” states the City of Maricopa.
This roadway is open to the public starting October 11th, 2023 and was entirely funded by the City of Maricopa.
The EPS Group team worked together to provide roadway engineering, utility coordination, drainage, landscape architecture, and survey services.
