EPS Group was chosen by the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) to reevaluate traffic projections in the Northern Parkway DCR (L303 to L101) and determine if they were still suitable for the area. This assessment was done in light of recent changes to the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) socioeconomic data.

EPS Group conducted a comprehensive analysis and refinement of MAG’s traffic forecast data, covering three design years in a 30 square mile planning area. The firm utilized recommended procedures from the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 765 to fine-tune travel demand model forecasts in the MAG model. These refined model forecasts were then used to assess the levels of service along the corridor based on general lane assumptions from the DCR along the corridor for each forecast year.

EPS Group’s analysis enabled the firm to provide recommendations to improve the efficiency of the Northern Parkway DCR project and ensure that the transportation infrastructure was optimized to meet the needs of the growing community.

The refined model forecasts helped the MCDOT better understand the expected traffic patterns and make necessary adjustments to enhance the corridor’s flow.

Following this effort, EPS Group was also invited to serve as a facilitator for negotiations between the funding partners, which included MCDOT, the City of Glendale, the City of Peoria, and the City of El Mirage. The firm’s role as a facilitator was to help resolve phasing and programming differences between the partners and ensure that the project was implemented effectively and efficiently.

EPS Group’s contributions to the Northern Parkway DCR project have been significant in ensuring that the transportation infrastructure meets the needs of the community. The firm’s expertise in traffic analysis and forecasting has been critical in making necessary adjustments and providing recommendations for optimizing the corridor’s flow. The firm’s role as a facilitator has also helped ensure that all stakeholders were aligned and working together to deliver a successful project.
