Schoolhouse Development | Gilbert, Arizona
EPS Group provided a range of services for the new private charter school project in Gilbert, Arizona. The 49,253 square foot Reagan Academy included playgrounds, basketball courts, play fields, a parking lot, grading and drainage, site utilities, hardscape, and landscaping. The company assisted in site plan design and ensuring ADA compatibility, and helped to develop the landscape design theme. The team conducted topographic, construction staking, and as-built survey services, and prepared construction documents for landscaping, water, sewer, grading, and paving.
EPS Group encountered a number of challenges related to traffic control and pedestrian safety during the construction of the school. Because parent pick-up and drop-off were the only means of transportation for students, the team coordinated with the landowner, sub-consultant traffic engineer, municipal owner, and the design-build contractor to develop solutions. Care was taken to minimize erosion and sediment transport around the facility during the construction process.
We also worked with the owner and adjacent landowners to address a grading issue that could have affected the development potential of other parcels. EPS Group routed approximately 85% of stormwater runoff generated by the project to the grass playing fields associated with the school. This helped to limit the amount of stormwater that could affect other parcels and supplemented the irrigation water needed for the grass after rain events.
Overall, EPS Group collaborated closely with the design-build contractor to ensure that the products used in the project would be long-lasting and require minimal repairs over time. Our expertise in civil engineering, survey, and land planning services helped to create a successful project that will serve the school and surrounding community for many years to come.
