SR 347 UPRR Grade Separation Final Design

Arizona Department of Transportation / City of Maricopa | Maricopa, Arizona

EPS Group completed the DCR, EA, and final design for the $55 million grade separation of State Route 347 over the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) tracks in historic downtown Maricopa, Arizona. The project is funded by ADOT (Arizona Department of Transportation) the City of Maricopa, and FHWA via a TIGER grant (i.e. state, local, and federal funds). EPS completed extensive coordination with UPRR and affected agencies to achieve project success.

This project required relocation of numerous arterial and City streets. Detailed traffic analyses and unique geometric configurations were required to develop responsive alternatives to these complex roadway configurations. Adjacent businesses and residents had concerns about potential property and economic impacts resulting from access modifications. We used highly successful public outreach efforts specifically tailored to address these issues. Other challenging project elements include TIGER grant schedule deadlines, multiple floodplain crossings, numerous utility relocations, and extensive right-of-way (52 residential and business) acquisitions.
